A 3D/2N Komodo liveaboard covers the central and northern highlights in about 8 dives. A 4D/3N or 5D/4N trip adds the south of the park (Manta Alley in season) and more dives, and 5 or more nights are needed to see the full park. Prices on Be Underwater start at IDR 9,000,000 (about US$550) for the shortest trip.

Prices are per person as listed on Be Underwater, in each boat's own currency, and vary by date and cabin. Park fees and other mandatory extras may apply, so check the trip page. IDR amounts are converted at about 16,400 IDR per US dollar for reference only.

What You Get in 3, 4 and 5+ Days

  • 3 days / 2 nights (about 8 dives). The central and north highlights of the park. Good for a first taste or a short stay in Labuan Bajo. Maika's 3D/2N trip is listed at 8 dives.
  • 4 days / 3 nights (11 to 15 dives). More time for the north and a chance to reach the south. Uber Scuba's 3 or 4 night safaris list 11 to 15 dives, and Mikumba Dua's 4-night trip lists 14.
  • 5 days / 4 nights (about 20 dives). Enough time to combine the north and south of the park, including Manta Alley when it is in season. Moana lists 20 dives over 5 nights.
  • 7+ nights. The complete park with more remote sites, and in some itineraries, areas beyond Komodo such as Alor. Komodo Aggressor trips run from 7 to 11 nights and 18 to 28 dives.

Season and Currents

The dry season, roughly April to November, brings calmer seas. The north of the park is at its best around June to September, and the south, including Manta Alley, is a December to February target. Read the full month-by-month breakdown in best time to dive Komodo.

Komodo is known for strong currents, especially at north sites during the dry season. That is why some boats ask for logged dives, and why an Advanced certification is strongly recommended. For specific sites, see best dive spots in Komodo or diving in Komodo.

Is a Komodo Liveaboard Worth It?

For most divers, yes. Komodo National Park is large, and a liveaboard lets you reach the far north and south sites without long daily transfers from Labuan Bajo, with dives early in the morning and late in the day. You also wake up at the next site rather than commuting to it.

It may not be worth it if you only want one or two dives, if you are prone to seasickness, or if you prefer to sleep ashore. In that case day trips from Labuan Bajo are a good alternative. If you are weighing both options in general, see liveaboard vs resort diving.

FAQ: Komodo Liveaboard

Is a 3 day Komodo liveaboard enough?

A 3D/2N trip covers the central and northern highlights with around 8 dives, which is enough for a taste of Komodo. It does not usually reach the south of the park, so for Manta Alley and more dives choose 4 or 5 nights.

How much does a Komodo liveaboard cost?

On Be Underwater, prices start at IDR 9,000,000 (about US$550) for a 3D/2N trip. A 4-night trip on Mikumba Dua starts at EUR 1,254, a 5-night trip on Moana is EUR 2,195, and the Komodo Aggressor starts at USD 3,325 for 7 nights. Prices are per person and vary by date and cabin.

Is a Komodo liveaboard worth it?

For most divers, yes, if the budget allows. A boat reaches the remote north and south sites that day boats from Labuan Bajo reach only with long transits, and it lets you dive early and late. If you only have a few days or prefer to sleep ashore, day trips from Labuan Bajo are a good alternative.

When is the best season for a Komodo liveaboard?

The dry season, roughly April to November, has calmer seas. The north is at its best around June to September, while Manta Alley in the south is a December to February target. See our month-by-month Komodo guide for details.

Do I need to be an advanced diver for Komodo?

Komodo has strong currents. The shorter boats listed here ask for Open Water plus a number of logged dives, and the Komodo Aggressor asks for Advanced Open Water and 50 logged dives. Advanced certification and drift diving experience make the current-swept sites much easier.
