Best time for a liveaboard in Indonesia

There is a liveaboard season somewhere in Indonesia every month. Komodo is best from April to November, Raja Ampat from October to April, and Banda Sea crossings usually run around the two changeover periods in spring and autumn.

Routes and departure ports

Komodo trips leave from Labuan Bajo on Flores and Raja Ampat trips from Sorong in West Papua. Many boats also schedule one-way repositioning trips between regions, which is how the Banda Sea and the Forgotten Islands are dived.

Frequently asked questions

Which is better, Komodo or Raja Ampat?
Komodo is known for manta rays, sharks and strong current, and it is cheaper and easier to reach. Raja Ampat has the highest reef fish and coral diversity recorded anywhere and trips are usually longer. The seasons are opposite, so the month you travel often decides it.
How long are Indonesia liveaboard trips?
Komodo trips range from 3 to 7 nights. Raja Ampat and Banda Sea itineraries usually run from 7 to 11 nights. Every departure shows its length and route.
How does booking a liveaboard on Be Underwater work?
You send a booking request for the departure and cabin you want and nothing is charged at that point. The boat's own team confirms your cabin first. Once confirmed, a 40% deposit is due two months before departure and the balance one month before departure. No booking fee is added on top of the listed price.
