The best Maldives dive sites are channels and pinnacles spread across many atolls, too far apart to reach from one island. A liveaboard moves between atolls overnight, so every day starts at a different site: manta cleaning stations, shark-filled channels and night dives with nurse sharks.

Maldives liveaboards run all year. The northeast monsoon, roughly December to April, brings the calmest seas and the best visibility on the central atolls. From May to November visibility drops a little on the eastern side, but plankton draws in more manta rays and whale sharks.
Most boats leave from Malé and run a 7-night central atolls route through North Malé, South Malé, Ari and Vaavu. Deep south routes to Fuvahmulah and Addu are scheduled on selected weeks, usually early in the year.
