The best places to dive in June are Komodo (peak dry season with northern sites at their best), Sipadan in Malaysia, Bali with Nusa Penida mantas, and Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand. Whale shark season begins off Mexico's Isla Mujeres, and the Mediterranean, including Malta, Greece and Croatia, is warming up for summer.

June is the start of the northern-hemisphere summer. The Mediterranean reaches comfortable temperatures, whale sharks gather off the Yucatan coast, and the dry season is in full swing in Komodo, Bali and Borneo. The Maldives and the Andaman Sea are in the wetter southwest monsoon, so Asia's best bets shift to Indonesia, Sipadan and the Gulf of Thailand.

Komodo in June

June to September is the best window for the northern sites of Komodo National Park, with dry weather and consistent conditions, and many liveaboards from Raja Ampat work the park. Water in the south is cooler in these months because of seasonal upwellings, so bring a thicker suit. More in our Komodo season guide and Komodo dive spots.

Sipadan in June

Sipadan is in its high season from April through December, with calmer seas and better visibility. Expect turtles, schooling barracuda and reef sharks. Access is limited by a daily permit system, so book early. See the Sipadan guide.

Bali in June

June is in the dry season. Nusa Penida has reef manta rays, and the Tulamben wreck, Amed and Padang Bai are easy dives for all levels. Water around Nusa Penida can be on the cool side, so a 3 to 5 mm suit is sensible. See the Bali dive guide.

Koh Tao in June

The Gulf of Thailand side is in a good period, with warm, generally calm water, and Koh Tao is one of the most popular places in the world to learn to dive. The Andaman Sea side is in its wetter period. See Koh Tao dive spots and the Thailand dive guide.

Whale sharks in Mexico in June

The whale shark season off Isla Mujeres and Cancun runs from June through September, with the largest aggregations in the summer months. Most whale shark trips in Mexico are snorkel-only with licensed operators. For scuba, Playa del Carmen and Cozumel offer reef diving and cenotes. See our whale shark guide and the cenote dive guide.

Malta and Gozo in June

The water has warmed to roughly 18–21°C and the island is quieter than in July and August. The wrecks, caves and the Blue Hole are all open, and a 5 to 7 mm wetsuit or semi-dry suit is usually enough. See the Malta dive guide.

Greece and Crete in June

Early summer brings calm seas and comfortable water temperatures across the Greek islands, with dive centers offering reef, wall, cave and wreck dives. See scuba diving in Greece and the Greece dive guide.

Croatia in June

The Adriatic diving season is well under way, with warming water and clear conditions along the coast. Wrecks, walls and caves are the main draws. See the Croatia dive guide and scuba diving in Europe.

Red Sea in June

The Red Sea is warm and comfortable, with a 3 mm suit usually enough. Daytime air temperatures are very high, so plan shade and hydration between dives. Reef sharks, wrecks and offshore routes are all available. Read the Red Sea season guide.
